Pleasant Disorientation is a multi-level bookstore organized around a hybrid system of water and vegetation vessels that act as both environmental infrastructure and architectural form. These vessels structure the building’s circulation, carving paths of ramps and stairs that create moments of disorientation and discovery as visitors move through the space. Responding to Venice’s rising water levels, the project elevates program and circulation, allowing continuous movement toward higher platforms during flooding events. Bookshelves are embedded directly within the vegetation vessels and are only accessible at flat platforms between circulation paths, transforming moments of rest into spaces of reading and occupation. By merging water management, planted systems, and architectural circulation, the project proposes an ecological interior where wandering, adaptation, and coexistence define the user experience.
