THE GRADIENT SAUNA
THE sauna design features a two-way slab roof system. Starting from the side closer to the sidewalks, the roof begins as a one-way slab stacked in layers. As it transitions toward the existing pool on the inner side, the one-way slabs gradually combine into a two-way slab system. The thickness of the roof merges and tapers as it progresses inward.
From a top view, the roof appears clean and uniform near the outer edges but becomes increasingly irregular and fragmented toward the interior, with sections strategically trimmed. This progression reflects the contrast between the crowdedness of the areas outside the bathhouse and the more tranquil, open environment within the site.
The same concept is applied to the columns. (Refer to the structure diagram showing the columns.) Near the exterior, the columns are more regular and robust, but as they move inward, they become thinner and more irregular, echoing the progression of the roof design.
