Komorebi is an integrated mid-rise housing project that weaves strucutre, facade, and environmental systems witha a concept inspired by light filtering through trees. The design brings greenery and shared outdoor spaces into everyday living for different types of combinatino of user groups, offering a nature-integrated housing model for New York City. Komorebi captures two core ambitions of the project. At the scale of nature, trees form an essential part of the building’s environmental strategy. It brings light, shade, and ecological comfort into contemporary housing. At the scale of community, trees have been a figure of communal gathering, a site where people feel free to go anytime, and on any day despite their background or identity, it can belong to everyone and every one.
